A huge protest broke out on the campus of Lovely Professional University here late Tuesday night after a student allegedly committed suicide in a hostel room.The protesting students alleged that this was the second suicide reported at the campus in the last 10 days, but the administration is tight-lipped on the issue.However, the police and civil administration have denied the allegations made by the students.Deputy police superintendent Jaspreet Singh said prima facie it appears the student was having some personal issues as has been suggested in a note. He added the student’s parents have been informed.
They alleged that news of the last suicide had gone unreported as the matter was resolved behind closed doors.In a statement, the university said the LPU fraternity is saddened by the unfortunate incident. “The university is providing full support to the authorities for further investigation. The university mourns the loss of the student and expresses its condolences to the bereaved family.”
