Twitter relaunched its revamped blue tick subscription service on Monday after it was suspended with a surge of imposter accounts it had approved.  Twitter has also rolled out the official gold and grey handle ticks for accounts.

The gold checkmark is for businesses and grey for government and multi-lateral accounts, Twitter had tweeted. Earlier every official handles had blue ticks but now some have started to appear with gold checkmarks.

The subscription service costs $8 per month for users accessing Twitter on the web and $11 per month for Apple users.

According to Twitter, the subscribers will be able to change their handle, display name or profile photo, but if they do they’ll temporarily lose the blue checkmark until their account is reviewed again.

Twitter tweeted that “subscribe on web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark.”

Musk had earlier tweeted that he will remove all legacy blue checks “in a few months.” Musk added that way in which they were given out was corrupt and nonsensical.”

“Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates,” said Musk.

The subscription service was suspended last month after the social media platform was flooded by a wave of imposter accounts it itself approved. Users had spammed the platform with hate speech, impersonating celebrities, brands and politicians.

Twitter launched Twitter Blue in November but it has to be suspended later when the imposter accounts surged on the platform. Though it was scheduled to launch again on November 29, it got delayed.
