Kangan Residents Protest Water Scarcity

Share:

GANDERBAL (TKP): The sweltering heatwave has had a devastating impact on the women of Shah Sultan Colony in Kangan, who have been enduring a severe water shortage for the past six days.

In response to this situation, protesters in Kangan took to the streets and blocked the Srinagar Leh highway for several hours, demanding immediate resolution of their grievances.

The protesters emphasized that their current protest is not an isolated incident but rather a result of being repeatedly compelled to take such actions in recent years. They also highlighted that traffic movement on the Srinagar Leh highway had been disrupted as a result of their protests.

The protesters appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal and officials from the relevant department to thoroughly investigate the matter and promptly address their legitimate demands.

Meanwhile, an official from the Jal Shakti department in Ganderbal clarified that the main reason behind the shortage of water supply is the shutdown of the PDC power canal. However, for the time being, the affected area will be provided with water tankers to cater to the emergency situation.(TKP)
