Srinagar: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has chosen Blue Pansy (Junonia Orithya) as the ‘State Butterfly’ of the Union Territory.
Principal Secretary to the Government Dheeraj Gupta accorded the sanction to the declaration of Blue Pansy (Junonia Orithya) as the ‘State Butterfly’ of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the order, a copy of which lies with Rising Kashmir, the decision to designate the Blue Pansy as the ‘State Butterfly’ was made after careful consideration of its unique characteristics and its vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the region. The Blue Pansy is known for its vibrant blue and black wings with striking orange spots, creating a mesmerizing sight when it flutters through the meadows and gardens of Jammu and Kashmir.
Home to an array of breathtaking landscapes, Jammu and Kashmir is renowned for its diverse flora and fauna. The Blue Pansy, with its graceful presence, has captivated the hearts of nature enthusiasts and researchers alike.
