In response to the recent request and demand made by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, the Chief Minister of Punjab has directed Desh Bhagat University (DBU) to provide compensation to the Kashmiri students who have been subjected to assault and trauma. Each student will receive a sum of Rs. 10 Lac to alleviate the dislocation and distress they have experienced. This decision comes amidst the admission scandal at DBU Punjab.

Furthermore, DBU will continue to provide education to those students who have legitimately enrolled in nursing courses at the university, in accordance with the norms set by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). However, the university will no longer accept any new admissions for nursing courses moving forward. In accordance with the government’s order, DBU will also furnish complete records to the colleges where the government will make efforts to accommodate the students. These records will include attendance, examination results, practical results, fee payments, and security details.

Nasir Khuehami, the National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, has been informed about these developments by the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor, Baltej Pannu, who expressed the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns and grievances of the affected students.

Khuehami expressed his gratitude for the measures taken by the government and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of the students. He commended the government’s efforts to provide compensation and arrange for the transfer of records to facilitate the students’ transition to other colleges.

Overall, these actions demonstrate a proactive response by the Punjab government in rectifying the situation and supporting the affected Kashmiri students. By addressing their concerns and offering compensation, the government recognizes the trauma and dislocation that these students have undergone. It is a step towards establishing a safer and more inclusive environment for all students, regardless of their background.
