Srinagar, October 20, 2023- In a significant development aimed at ensuring the safety and maintenance of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), the government has declared a 24-hour ‘Traffic Dry Day’ starting at midnight on October 21st, 2023. This unprecedented move comes as a response to the urgent repair work scheduled at Dhalwas by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The decision, which was conveyed through an advisory issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Traffic on National Highway, was based on communications from the Public Works (R&B) Department and the directives of the District Magistrate Ramban.
During the 24-hour ‘Traffic Dry Day,’ vehicular traffic on NH-44, specifically between Navyuga Tunnel and Nashri Tunnel and vice-versa, will be strictly restricted. No Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) or Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) will be permitted to ply on this vital highway during this period, with the exception of medical emergency vehicles. The ‘Traffic Dry Day’ will conclude at midnight on October 22nd, 2023.
This action underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure, ensuring the safety of commuters, and addressing critical repair needs promptly. Road users are urged to comply with the traffic advisory and cooperate with the authorities to facilitate the timely completion of these essential repairs.
The government is making every effort to minimize inconvenience to the public during this period and appreciates the cooperation and understanding of the citizens. Further updates and details will be provided as the repair work progresses.
