Residents of Ganderbal are expressing frustration as the local public toilet remains closed indefinitely, creating challenges for both locals and visitors. The toilet complex, constructed by the Municipal Council Ganderbal several years ago, has been locked for an undetermined period, leaving the community without a vital public facility.
Local residents shared their concerns with The Kashmiriyat, highlighting the difficulties faced due to the lack of accessible sanitation options. “It’s a basic necessity, and its closure is affecting everyone,” one resident stated.
Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Ganderbal, Mirza Asif Ali, explained that the decision to lock the toilet was made in response to ongoing theft incidents, including the recurring theft of taps and other fixtures. “We had no choice but to secure the facility to prevent further losses,” he noted, emphasizing the need to protect public resources.
While Ali assured the community that the toilet would be reopened soon, he acknowledged the urgency of addressing the issue to restore this essential service. Residents are hopeful that local authorities will take swift action to resolve the situation and improve access to this crucial public amenity.
