After enduring years of delays, the Akhal Kangan bridge in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is finally on the brink of inauguration, with vehicular access anticipated within the coming week.
The announcement was made by Mian Mehar Ali, the local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Kangan, who expressed his excitement over the bridge’s completion. This vital infrastructure is poised to enhance connectivity between Kangan and its neighboring villages, transforming local travel and commerce.
Initiated in 2010, the Akhal Kangan Bridge project has faced multiple hurdles, including missed deadlines and extended periods of inactivity. Nevertheless, its imminent completion signifies a major leap forward in the region’s infrastructure development.
In a further boost to local connectivity, MLA Mehar Ali revealed that a new road has been sanctioned to connect Kangan Market to Akhal Bridge, passing by the R&B Guest House. This development, approved by senior officials from the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, promises to significantly reduce travel times for residents of Akhal, Najwan, Kunmal, and nearby areas.
“This achievement underscores our unwavering commitment to improving the region’s infrastructure and fulfilling the pledges made during the election campaign,” said MLA Mian Mehar Ali. “While it may have taken longer than anticipated, I am sincerely thankful to all the officials who contributed to bringing this project to fruition.”
The local community has been eagerly awaiting the bridge’s completion, having endured considerable inconveniences due to limited access to Kangan and other critical locations. Residents voiced their appreciation for the bridge and the newly sanctioned road, both of which will enhance transportation and facilitate daily travel.
“This bridge marks the end of years of struggle for us. We’ve long awaited improved access, and we are genuinely thankful to MLA Kangan and the government for making this a reality,” remarked a local resident.
A successful trial run of the bridge was conducted earlier today, involving two loaded tippers that tested its durability and strength, further assuring the community of its safety and reliability.
One of the drivers expressed his relief and joy, stating, “After 15 years of waiting, we can finally celebrate this moment. It’s a joyous day for all residents of Akhal and surrounding areas.”
The completion of the Akhal Kangan Bridge, alongside the newly approved road, is set to stimulate economic growth, enhance transportation, and significantly uplift the quality of life for thousands in the region.
