Srinagar :-In the heart of winter, farmers in Srinagar are undeterred by sub-zero temperatures as they gather at the partially frozen Anchar Lake to harvest lotus stems, known locally as Nadru. Clad in thick woolen shawls, they wade into the frigid waters, relying on skill and determination to extract the coveted stems that are vital to Kashmiri cuisine and culture.

Despite the biting cold, camaraderie fills the air as the farmers share stories of past harvests and the challenges they face. As the sun rises, they work tirelessly, their baskets filling with the day’s catch—a testament to their resilience and deep connection to the land.

Once back on shore, the laughter and chatter continue, with the harvested Nadru destined for homes across Kashmir, where it will transform into beloved dishes. Through their hard work, these farmers not only brave the harsh winter elements but also preserve a rich culinary heritage, showcasing that life thrives even in the coldest months.
