Illegal Fishing in Nallah Sindh Continues Unchecked

GANDERBAL: Despite promises from the Fisheries department, illegal fishing in Nallah Sindh, particularly in the Wussan and Chinner areas of Ganderbal district, is still a major problem. Local residents are frustrated and disappointed by the department’s lack of action on this issue.

Illegal methods, such as using banned fishing nets, electric shocks, and various types of hooks, have become common. Residents claim that the Fisheries department’s guards, who are supposed to monitor the area, are often missing. This raises concerns about how well the department is really overseeing the situation.

“The department’s claims of strict monitoring seem meaningless when illegal fishing is happening right in front of them,” said local resident Sharif Ahmad. He expressed worry about the impact of these illegal practices on fish populations and the overall health of the ecosystem.

The problem of illegal fishing in Nallah Sindh is not unique; similar issues have been reported in other parts of Ganderbal district. The Fisheries department’s inability to tackle this problem raises concerns about the long-term effects on the region’s aquatic life. “The department must take real action to stop illegal fishing and protect our fish,” urged a local environmental activist.

In response to these concerns, Fisheries Ganderbal official Mohammad Aslam stated that the department is working to resolve the issue. “Our field staff is actively trying to stop these illegal activities, and anyone caught will face legal action,” he assured.
