SRINAGAR: The Central University of Kashmir announced it will host the All India Inter-University Winter Sports event in Gulmarg on January 30 and 31. This announcement was made during a press conference at the DIPR Complex, Poloview Srinagar, by Vice Chancellor Prof A Ravinder Nath

The event is sponsored by the Association of Indian Universities and will feature 27 universities with 169 participants, including athletes, coaches, and managers. Prof. Nath highlighted the significance of the event in promoting Kashmir as a winter sports destination, which he said would enhance both the university’s national standing and the region’s tourism appeal.

In addition to the sports event, Prof Nath discussed the implementation of the Common University Entrance Test for postgraduate programmes, urging students from Jammu and Kashmir to participate. The application deadline for this national-level exam, which provides access to 48 central universities across India, is February 1.

The conference also touched upon key aspects of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on creating a learner-centric education system. Prof. Nath outlined the university’s commitment to preparing students for higher education, employment, and entrepreneurship under its new motto, “Educate, Enrich, Empower.”

Updates on the university’s infrastructure development were also shared, with new hostels and academic buildings expected to be completed within the next two to three years. Additionally, the university is introducing nine academic best practices, which will soon be communicated to faculty and stakeholders.

Prof. Nath expressed hope that the winter sports event and ongoing educational reforms would contribute to Kashmir’s growth as a centre for sports and learning.
