Anantnag: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the government, accusing it of failing to fulfil promises made to the people and alleging that the Urdu language is being sidelined. Addressing a large district-level convention in Anantnag, she also criticised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for maintaining silence on key public issues.
Referring to recent developments, Mehbooba Mufti questioned the leadership’s response and said that people expect accountability and clear communication from those in power. She expressed concern over what she termed as neglect of cultural and linguistic identity, particularly highlighting the alleged removal of Urdu from revenue records.
Speaking on the booking of six individuals under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Sopore, PDP leader Iltija Mufti said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are facing immense hardship. She noted that many young people are either detained under PSA or UAPA, while others continue to struggle with unemployment and lack of opportunities.
Iltija Mufti further alleged that jobs are scarce and many are being outsourced, adding that despite making several promises, the ruling party has failed to deliver and continues to blame the PDP. She emphasised the need for accountability and safeguarding the region’s identity.
Senior PDP leaders, including General Secretary Abdul Rahman Veeri and Vice President Mehboob Beg, were also present and addressed the gathering.
The convention saw participation of around 4,000 party workers from across South Kashmir, marking a significant show of strength by the party in the region.
