IUST Intensifies Anti-Drug Drive with Nasha Mukt Bharat Rally

Awantipora: Reaffirming its commitment to a drug-free society, the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Wednesday organized a large-scale awareness rally under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, drawing massive participation from across the campus and local community.

The rally was led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo and witnessed enthusiastic involvement of faculty members, administrative officers, students, research scholars, non-teaching staff, and residents from adjoining areas. The event reflected a united stand against substance abuse, emphasizing awareness, education, and collective responsibility.

Among those present were Registrar Prof. Aabid H. Shalla, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. A.H. Moon, Dr. G. N. Itoo, Director, Centre for Good Governance and Policy Analysis, along with deans, directors, and senior university officials, all of whom joined in reinforcing the anti-drug message.

The rally commenced from the Humanities Lawn within the campus and proceeded towards the National Highway at Awantipora, attracting public attention. Participants carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of prevention and rehabilitation.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Romshoo stressed the need for sustained awareness campaigns and greater community participation to tackle the growing menace of substance abuse. He administered a pledge to participants, reaffirming their commitment to eradicating drug abuse and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

He further highlighted the university’s ongoing initiatives aimed at prevention, awareness, and rehabilitation, urging stakeholders to actively contribute to building a drug-free society.

As part of the programme, the university also organized sports events, a painting competition, and other creative activities to engage students and spread awareness through positive and constructive means.
