New Delhi: Jailed Waris Punjab De member Amritpal Singh was flown to New Delhi by special aircraft recently for his swearing-in as an MP, an official told PTI.

Singh, who won the Lok Sabha election from the Khadoor Sahib constituency in Punjab, has been granted four-day parole for the ceremony, he added.

Escorted from Dibrugarh Central Jail, where he has been held since April last year, Singh was taken to the airport under tight security early in the morning. An eight-member team from the Punjab Police arrived on Thursday to escort Singh to New Delhi, accompanied by Assam police and district administration officials.

Last month, Singh’s parents, Tarsem Singh and Balwinder Kaur, and his wife Kirandeep Kaur, visited him after his Lok Sabha election victory. Amritpal won the Khadoor Sahib seat by a margin of 1.97 lakh votes as an Independent candidate, defeating Congress’s Kulbir Singh Zira.
