The District Administration, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and the She Hope Society for Women Entrepreneurs, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School Dudderhama. This year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” highlighted the essential contributions of individuals with disabilities to society.
The vibrant event gathered over 140 participants, including persons with disabilities, their families, and community supporters, who enjoyed cultural performances and skits. A significant highlight was the distribution of Nirmaya E-cards and legal guardianship certificates by the District Development Commissioner, symbolizing the commitment to inclusivity.
In total, 27 beneficiaries received Nirmaya Health Insurance cards, while 12 were awarded legal guardianship certificates from the National Trust. The Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme, initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, aims to provide affordable health coverage for individuals with disabilities, ensuring they receive adequate medical support.
She Hope Society, the registered organization representing the National Trust in Ganderbal, aims to enroll 80 beneficiaries under this scheme for the upcoming year. The Executive Director of She Hope Society delivered an insightful update on the Nirmaya scheme, underscoring its significance in empowering persons with disabilities.
The gathering was graced by dignitaries, including the District Development Commissioner, Chief Education Officer, and District Social Welfare Officer, who all pledged to uphold the rights and entitlements of individuals with disabilities.
The celebration concluded with a collective commitment to foster an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of ability, is recognized, respected, and empowered to thrive.
