LET militant slain in Shopain gunbattle, operation over

Srinagar, KNA): local Lashkar-e-toiba (LET) militants have been killed in an encounter that broke out between militants and government forces at Baskuchan area of Imamsahib in south Kashmir’s Shopain district, police said on Sunday.

A senior police officer told Kashmir News Apex- (KNA) that a joint team of police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces intensified searches towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter.

He said during exchange of fire, one LET militant have been killed. He identified the killed militant as Naseer Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Nowpora Baskuchan village in south Kashmir’s Shopain district.

He further added that incriminating materials including AK 47 rifles and ammunition recovered near gunbattle site.
