In the bustling town of Khunmoh, Srinagar, 22-year-old Mudasir Rashid is proving that one man’s trash can truly be another’s treasure. While most people see discarded wood as waste, Mudasir sees untapped potential—transforming scraps into stunning, handcrafted art pieces that fetch thousands.
What started as a casual hobby has now turned into a thriving passion. “I once watched a craft video and decided to try it myself. I made a small piece and gifted it to a friend. That moment changed everything,” he recalls. That first creation sparked a fire within him, and today, his hands carve, shape, and polish forgotten wood into extraordinary works of art.
With just one machine at the start, Mudasir worked tirelessly to expand his workshop. Now, surrounded by an array of tools, he crafts everything from decorative showpieces to functional home items. “The effort you put in determines the reward. The more I create, the more I earn,” he says, with some of his pieces selling for thousands.
But Mudasir is more than just an artist—he’s an engineering student, a skilled technician, and even a bird seller. “Alhamdulillah, I balance everything well,” he says. His biggest support system? His family. “My parents stand by me in everything I do. My father always provides what I need,” he shares with gratitude.
Unlike many his age, Mudasir isn’t drawn to distractions. “Mobile phones give me nothing, but my work gives me everything—respect, money, and purpose,” he explains. He believes success follows those who dedicate themselves fully. “Allah opens doors for those who work with passion,” he says.
His inspiration comes from global artisans who turn ordinary scrap into luxury pieces. “I saw a video of someone crafting a $49,000 table from a simple wooden slice. That made me wonder—why can’t we do the same?” he says, determined to elevate his craft to new heights.
Through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, Mudasir showcases and sells his unique creations, earning admiration from across the region. From clocks to intricate bird sculptures, every piece he makes carries a story of transformation—proof that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places.
