In a significant move to bolster the fisheries sector in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Javed Ahmad Dar, conducted a review of the Trout Fish Farm in Mammer and inspected Khyber Aquaculture in Kangan. This visit underscored the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable fish farming practices under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).

During the inspection, Minister Dar highlighted the impressive production figures achieved in the Ganderbal district, where private sector initiatives have yielded 50 tons of trout and 20 tons of carp. These achievements not only demonstrate the potential of aquaculture in the region but also signify a growing opportunity for local employment and economic development.
The minister urged the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to consider fish farming as a viable livelihood option. “With the right support and investment, we can transform the fisheries sector into a major source of income and employment for our young population,” he stated.
Dar’s emphasis on sustainable practices aims to ensure that the fisheries sector not only meets current demands but also preserves ecological balance for future generations. As the government continues to promote aquaculture, the potential for growth in this sector appears promising, offering new avenues for economic prosperity in the region.
