Police launch legal action against impersonator posing as ADGP Jammu

Srinagar, Feb 26: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said it has initiated legal action against a person impersonating as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu zone on various social media handles.

The police said that the said person was also extorting money from people, and advised social media users to refrain from responding to such fake profiles.

Taking to micro-blogging site X (formerly twitter) the Zonal Police Media Centre Jammu said that “A fraudster has managed to impersonate ADGP Jammu zone, Shri Anand Jain, IPS on various social media platforms using his image including other credentials and is extorting money from people,” and added, “The offender has created the profiles with malicious intent”.

It also said, “Accordingly, legal action has been initiated as per law”.

It is advised that individuals should refrain from responding to these profiles. Any financial loss or other issues should be reported to the nearest police station/Cyber Cell in the respective districts”, the post on X added.

Earlier on January 2, police had flagged a fake social media account impersonating the ADGP and urged people not to interact with it.
