Ganderbal: Residents of Nillah Najwan in Kangan have once again raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of their village road, alleging that despite repeated assurances from the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department over the past several years, no concrete work has been carried out on the ground.

While speaking to Valley Online News, local residents said the road has remained in a dilapidated condition for years, making daily travel extremely difficult for school-going children, elderly people, patients, commuters and motorists. They said the damaged road has become a major inconvenience and poses safety risks, especially during the rainy season.

The residents told Valley Online News that they have approached the concerned R&B authorities on several occasions, but were repeatedly assured that work would begin “today or tomorrow.” According to them, these promises have remained unfulfilled, leaving the local population disappointed.

Speaking to Valley Online News, officials from the R&B Department, including the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Kangan, stated that the road project has already been included in the department’s plan and the proposal has been forwarded to the higher authorities for approval. The AEE expressed hope that once the necessary approval is received, the road construction work can begin at the earliest.

However, residents said they have been hearing similar assurances for years and now expect visible action rather than repeated promises.

The villagers have appealed to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Executive Engineer (XEN) Ganderbal, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Kangan and MLA Kangan to personally intervene and ensure that the long-pending road project is taken up without further delay.

Expressing their disappointment, several elderly residents told Valley Online News that they have spent years waiting for the road to be constructed. “We have lived our lives hoping to see this road completed. Now we only pray that our children at least get to travel on a proper road,” one elderly resident said.

The people of Nillah Najwan have urged the administration and the R&B Department to convert assurances into action and provide the village with the basic road connectivity they have been demanding for many years.
