Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president and incumbent parliamentarian, Dr Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday said that the alliance with Congress in the upcoming parliamentary polls is certain and that it is aimed to strengthen politics in Jammu and Kashmir.
Talking to media persons, Dr Abdullah as per the news agency Kashmir News Observer, said that there is nothing new in people coming and joining the political parties, especially during the elections.
“We have to fight the elections on our own. But, there is no doubt that the party is entering into a pre-poll bonhomie with Congress. Omar Abdullah is presently engaged in talks with Congress in this regard,” he said.
“A group has already come up and there is a need to strengthen it. Align with Congress is aimed at strengthening politics in J&K. We cannot stay alone, as part of the nation we have to merge and strengthen the country, which cannot be ensured while staying alone,” he said.
Asked about the claims of BJP with regard to the seats in Kashmir, he said it depends upon the people to decide the fate of any political party or a leader in the elections.
About assembly polls, Dr Farooq said that they want the polls to be held at earliest. “When parliamentary elections can be held then why not assembly polls,” he asked
