Srinagar: Election Commission of India has allowed SM Altaf Bukhari led Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party to retain ‘bat’ as symbol for anticipated assembly polls.
Informing CEO J&K of acceptance of an application by J&K Apni Party to allow it to retain the ‘bat’ as symbol under the provisions of Para 10B of the Election Symbols (Reservation & Allotment) Order, 1968, the ECI directed the latter to grant concession to the candidates nominated by Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party in Assembly Polls – which to date is registered however yet an unrecognised political party.
J&K Apni Party by virtue of the sanction granted, as per The KashPost can use ‘bat’ as its symbol in all assembly constituencies in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Commission has however maintained that the allotment of the symbol to the party is only for the forthcoming general elections to the Legislative Assemblies or the Lok Sabha and that further use of Common Symbol by the party is not allowed after the completion of immediate election(s).
