SRINAGAR: Dr Fayaz Mir, a distinguished fellow who recently returned from Harvard and hails from Tral, is expected to soon join the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), party sources said.
Dr Mir’s academic journey is impressive, having earned a doctoral degree in immunology from the Max-Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin, Germany, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, where he conducted research from 2010 to 2013.
After a brief tenure at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar, he moved to Qatar in 2014, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor of Immunology at Qatar University’s School of Medicine and works as a Research Scientist at Hamad Medical Corporation.
Sources said Dr Mir has had a series of meetings with the party leaders in recent days. However, it was not immediately known when he is joining the party formally. Party sources said his joining will strengthen the party’s youth outreach and get better-educated people with good exposure to politics.
