Driven by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s vision for artificial intelligence (AI) and his push for tech leaders to utilise it in tackling critical issues, Google is not only investing heavily in AI in India but is also planning to inject more capital into the country, said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google.
Speaking during a CEOs’ roundtable with Modi, Pichai expressed admiration for Modi’s focus on transforming India through the ‘Digital India’ initiative, PTI reported.
“PM Modi has encouraged us to keep innovating and manufacturing in India. We’re proud to now produce our Pixel phones in India. He’s truly focused on how AI can transform the nation to benefit its people,” Pichai stated.
The Indian-origin tech leader highlighted how PM Modi has urged them to develop AI-driven applications in areas like healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, and energy, ensuring India’s progress toward becoming a developed nation.
“We are heavily investing in AI in India and plan to do more. We have several partnerships with ministries like MeitY, and health and agriculture sectors,” said Pichai, noting Google’s growing commitment to India.
He also shared that Modi has consistently encouraged everyone to contribute more to India, with a particular focus now on AI, underscoring the potential benefits for the country’s citizens.
He had met top technology and bioscience leaders after presenting his vision for making India a global tech leader at a diaspora event. After engaging with 15 CEOs from various sectors, he expressed optimism about India’s prospects on X, the report mentioned quoting the Pichai further saying.
