Labourers Targeted While Working on Key Infrastructure Project; Massive Manhunt Underway
Srinagar: In a tragic turn of events, two workers lost their lives and three others were injured in a militant attack in Ganderbal district, Kashmir, on Sunday evening. The labourers, employed by IFFCO for a major infrastructure project in the Gagangir area of Sonamarg, were fired upon by suspected militants, a top police official confirmed.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where two were pronounced dead upon arrival. The remaining injured workers are undergoing treatment, and their condition remains critical.
Security forces have launched a large-scale search operation to track down the attackers. This marks the second such incident within the last 48 hours, following the discovery of a non-local man’s body in Shopian district.
Condemning the attack, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his outrage on X, stating, “These were innocent labourers working to develop the region. My heart goes out to the families of those who have lost their lives.”
