Kulgam :In a significant step toward improving educational infrastructure, Sakeena Masood, Minister for Higher Education, School Education, Health & Medical Education, and Social Welfare, laid the foundation stone for a new educational infrastructure project at Government Degree College (GDC) Kulgam on . The event was attended by prominent figures, including M.Y. Tarigami, MLA Kulgam, Peerzada Feroze, MLA Devsar, ADC Viqar Giri, Director of Colleges, and the Principal of GDC Kulgam, Syed Aezaz Ahmad Rizvi, along with several other dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, Sakeena Masood emphasized the importance of the project, saying, “This initiative will provide a modern learning environment for students, improving the quality of education and ensuring that students from Kulgam and the surrounding areas have access to better academic facilities. We are committed to completing the project within the stipulated timeframe, and it will benefit all students of GDC Kulgam.”
Highlighting the need for better infrastructure, Masood pointed out that GDC Kulgam, as the main college in the district, plays a vital role in providing education to students from far-flung areas. She expressed her desire to ensure that the college reaches the standards of the nominated colleges in the state, with plans to introduce new streams and courses to meet the diverse academic needs of the student body.
“We are looking into expanding the academic streams here. GDC Kulgam serves students from across the region, and we want to ensure that their education is on par with the best institutions in the state,” she added.
M.Y. Tarigami, MLA Kulgam, praised Sakeena Masood’s leadership and dedication, expressing deep admiration for her work. “Sakeena is like a daughter to me. Her father, Wali Mohammad Itoo, was a close friend of mine, and I have always been proud of her accomplishments. Although I have never been a minister, I have always supported Sakina and her worthy work. I will continue to stand by her and her efforts to improve the education system,” Tarigami said, addressing the gathering with heartfelt words.
The ceremony also saw expressions of gratitude from GDC Kulgam Principal, Syed Aezaz Ahmad Rizvi, who thanked the Minister, MLAs, and the Director of Colleges for their continued support. “This project will truly transform the academic experience here at GDC Kulgam. We are grateful for the government’s commitment to enhancing the facilities and making education more accessible and effective for our students,” Rizvi stated.
The development of GDC Kulgam is a key part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure across the region. The new project will include the construction of additional classrooms, modern laboratories, a library, and upgraded administrative facilities, all aimed at creating a better learning environment for students.
The execution of the project will be handled by the R&B Division of Kulgam, with work expected to commence shortly. The new infrastructure will not only enhance the academic atmosphere at GDC Kulgam but is also expected to improve overall student outcomes, paving the way for better opportunities for the youth of Kulgam.
