Kulgam: As part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, Kulgam Police have attached a property worth over ₹1 crore belonging to Mohd Ashraf Bhat, a notorious drug peddler in the region. The property, located in Rehpora Khudwani, consists of a double-storied residential house and 15 marlas of land beneath it.
The attachment was carried out under Section 68-F(2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, following investigations that revealed the property was purchased using proceeds from illegal drug trafficking. Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat, is currently lodged in Central Jail Kupwara and is involved in multiple criminal cases, including FIR No. 43/2023, registered at Police Station Qazigund.
Police officials emphasized that this action is part of a broader strategy to disrupt the financial networks of drug traffickers. By targeting the assets acquired through illicit activities, the authorities aim to weaken the operations of drug cartels in the region.
The Kulgam Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking and ensuring that those profiting from illegal trade face legal consequences, sending a strong message to others involved in similar activities.
