Indian Railways has geared up to introduce the country’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset. This new semi-high-speed train will connect Srinagar and New Delhi and run on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL).
BEML manufactured the Vande Bharat Sleeper, which will cover longer distances and overnight journeys. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the prototype in September 2024
Earlier in October, speaking to ETNOW.in, a senior railway official confirmed that the first Vande Sleeper trainset will connect the national capital with the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The official further added that the train would later be extended to Baramulla.
The New Delhi to Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper train will be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi next year. It is expected that the train will begin its commercial services in January 2025.
The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper train will cover a distance of more than 800 km in less than 13 hours. Presently, there are no such direct train services between the two destinations. With the launch of the Delhi to Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper, Kashmir Valley will get first-time direct rail connectivity with New Delhi.
The New Delhi-Srinagar-New Delhi Vande Bharat Sleeper train will have 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches, and one First AC coach. The ticket price for travelling between New Delhi and Srinagar by Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset is expected to be around Rs 2000 for 3A, Rs 2500 for 2A, and Rs 3000 for 1A.
The New Delhi-Srinagar Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to depart at 19:00 hrs to reach Srinagar at 08:00 hrs. En route, the train will stop at only a few major stations including Ambala Cantt Junction, Ludhiana Junction, Kathua, Jammu Tawai, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Sangaldan, and Banihal.
