Ganderbal: Residents of Gaffar Sheikh Mohalla, Akhal Kangan, Ganderbal, staged a protest outside the PDD department Office, voicing their anger over years of severe electricity shortages in the area. They stated that power outages have disrupted their daily lives, with even basic activities such as charging phones becoming a struggle.

The residents highlighted that the only source of electricity for their area is a transformer located 5 kilometers away. They alleged that the electricity supply line from that transformer to their locality is precariously tied to tree branches, posing safety hazards and frequent disruptions.

Despite paying electricity bills of approximately ₹1,300 every month, the residents expressed frustration over the lack of reliable power. “We have visited PDD offices multiple times, but each time we are met with empty promises and no concrete action,” the protestors said.

They warned that if their long-pending issue is not resolved soon, they would be compelled to escalate their protests. “If our problem is not addressed, we will have no choice but to stage larger demonstrations,” they stated.

While taking to The KashPost, AEE of the PDD acknowledged the issue and informed that an estimate has already been sent to higher authorities. “Efforts are underway to provide a new transformer to resolve the problem at the earliest,” he assured.

The residents urged the department to act promptly to avoid further unrest and ensure uninterrupted electricity in the area.
