Neglected Voices: 500 Lives Struggle Without Road Access in Mir Basti Bonibagh and Gujar Basti Thune

The Mir Basti Bonibagh and Gujar Basti Thune, nestled amidst the verdant landscapes of Kangan, lies a stark reality of neglect and suffering. More than 70 households, comprising nearly 500 residents, endure daily hardships due to the absence of a motorable road , a vital lifeline that remains elusive despite years of pleas and promises.

The area, which spans 720 kanals of fertile agricultural land, holds immense potential for prosperity. However, the lack of road connectivity renders this potential meaningless, as farmers cannot access modern agricultural machinery like tractors, tillers, or essential equipment. The absence of these technologies has left the land largely untapped, robbing the community of its rightful livelihood.

This neglect came into sharp focus a few months ago when tragedy struck. A young boy fell into an irrigation canal and, though initially rescued, succumbed to his injuries in his father’s arms. The family’s desperate attempt to carry him on foot to the nearest highway for medical help proved futile, as the absence of a road delayed the critical care he needed.

Despite filing numerous grievances over the past five years, the residents’ appeals for road construction have fallen on deaf ears. Each time, they were met with hollow assurances, but no action has materialized. The lack of road infrastructure has not only hampered development but has also placed lives and livelihoods at perpetual risk.

“The construction of a road is not just an infrastructure project , it is a lifeline for our survival and the key to the all-round development of our area,” shared a distraught resident.

The demand for road connectivity is no longer a mere request but an urgent necessity. It is a call to action for authorities to end the prolonged suffering of this community and provide them with the basic right to accessibility and development.

As the cries of Mir Basti Bonibagh and Gujar Basti Thune grow louder, the question remains: how long will they have to wait for the promise of a road to transform from words to reality?
