As 2024 draws to a close, Jammu and Kashmir has undergone a significant transformation, navigating both obstacles and triumphs. A key highlight of the year has been the resurgence of its tourism sector, often celebrated as “Paradise on Earth.”
This year, the region witnessed an impressive influx of tourists, both from within India and around the globe.
Official reports indicate that Jammu and Kashmir attracted nearly 3 million visitors, a figure bolstered by the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims and those captivated by the region’s stunning natural beauty.
Among the region’s attractions, Sonamarg stood out, drawing 817,708 visitors eager to enjoy its tranquil landscapes and awe-inspiring views.
Raja Yaqoob, the Director of Tourism for Kashmir, spoke with a local news agency about the significance of this milestone year. He remarked, “This record-breaking arrival of 3 million tourists marks a pivotal moment for our tourism sector.
The increase in both international and domestic travelers highlights Kashmir’s rising appeal on the global stage.”
Looking ahead, Yaqoob expressed a positive outlook for the future. He emphasized the department’s dedication to further showcasing Jammu and Kashmir’s unmatched natural beauty and renowned hospitality.
“We are developing strategies to elevate the valley’s global profile, ensuring it remains a top-tier travel destination,” he noted, adding that efforts will be made to maintain this momentum while safeguarding the cultural and ecological heritage that makes the Valley truly unique.
