SRINAGAR: As the long-awaited train connection between Kashmir and Kanyakumari inches closer to reality, Northern Railway has announced plans to invest approximately Rs 450 Crore in the modernisation and redevelopment of Jammu Tawi Railway Station.
According to details, the project aims to enhance passenger experience, improve connectivity, and boost operational efficiency, aligning the station with modern infrastructure standards.

He described the yard remodeling as a challenging yet crucial component of the station’s redevelopment, which will enable further infrastructure enhancements.
The number of platforms will increase from three to seven, with the addition of four new platforms featuring state-of-the-art ballastless track technology. Enhanced hygiene will be ensured with washable aprons on all platforms, creating a cleaner environment. The expansion is expected to streamline train operations and provide passengers with a more comfortable experience. The redevelopment plan includes the construction of two new 12-meter-wide foot overbridges (FOBs) and a 72-meter-wide air concourse connecting all seven platforms, ensuring seamless passenger movement. Additionally, a new 4,500-square-meter second entry building will be developed on the Narwal side to cater to the growing needs of passengers.
The main station building will also be upgraded to a 15,600-square-meter facility, equipped with modern amenities and a contemporary design. The signal control room will be relocated to the new station building. Furthermore, the number of washing pit lines will increase from three to five, enabling the station to accommodate more trains efficiently.
