Authorities Accused of Turning a Blind Eye as Constructions Encroach Within 10 Feet of Nallah Sindh
Srinagar, June 23: In clear defiance of High Court directives, illegal constructions have emerged along the Nallah Sindh baseline in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
According to sources, individuals in the scenic Mammer region of Kangan Tehsil are allegedly encroaching on the nallah’s baseline to carry out construction activities, directly violating the court’s ruling. The High Court had earlier mandated that no construction should take place within a 350-foot radius of the nallah. However, sources reveal that construction is underway as close as 10 feet to the water body.
Local residents, including senior citizens, have expressed concerns over the situation, alleging a lack of action by the authorities. “The people involved in these illegal activities seem to have been granted impunity by the administration,” one senior citizen said.
Residents have further accused officials of turning a blind eye to the ongoing violations, suggesting collusion between government employees and contractors. “The administration is fully aware of these violations but chooses to ignore them,” a local added.
The alleged indifference of the authorities and the blatant disregard for court orders raise serious questions about governance and accountability in the region.
