SRINAGAR: A truck driver from Sopore was killed in a firing incident after he allegedly ignored a security forces’ checkpoint (Naka) near Nexa Showroom Sangramaha in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.
An official told Kashmir Dot Com that the deceased has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Majeed Mir, a resident of Goripora Bomai, Sopore.
According to an Army statement, “a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was set up on February 5, 2025, based on specific intelligence inputs regarding terrorist movement. A civilian truck approached the checkpoint at high speed and failed to stop despite repeated warnings, instead accelerating further.”
“Security forces pursued the vehicle for over 23 km before firing at its tyres to deflate them, bringing the truck to a halt at Sangrama Chowk. Upon a detailed search, the injured driver was immediately evacuated to GMC Baramulla, where he was declared dead.”
“The truck, which was fully loaded, has been taken to the nearest police station for further investigation. A detailed search of the vehicle is underway, and authorities are probing the driver’s background,” army said.
An official confirmed the incident and said the investigation has been set into motion and details will be shared later. (KDC)
