BJP Leader and Ex-MLA of Gurez Allegedly Dies by Suicide; Mehbooba Mufti Offers Condolences to Family
Kangan, March 21: Thousands of people gathered in Kangan, a town in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, on Friday to offer their prayers and pay respects to former BJP leader and MLA of Gurez, Faqeer Mohammad Khan. Khan, who was found dead at his official residence in Tulsibagh, Srinagar, on Thursday, allegedly died by suicide.
Following legal formalities, Khan’s body was brought to Kangan, where many of his relatives reside. A large crowd attended the funeral prayers, and he was later laid to rest in the town.
Srinagar Police confirmed that they had initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Khan’s death, noting that a firearm discharge had been reported at his residence in Tulsibagh, which led to his death.

On Friday, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti visited Kangan to offer her condolences to Khan’s family. She met with his relatives and expressed her grief over the tragic incident. Mufti was accompanied by senior PDP leader Bashir Ahmad Mir and other party members.
The untimely passing of Faqeer Khan has left many in shock, as the region mourns the loss of the former legislator.
