Srinagar, Apr 24: Students at the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) staged a peaceful protest on Thursday, voicing concern over the reported harassment of Kashmiri students in several parts of the country following the recent Pahalgam attack.
Carrying placards with messages such as “We are Kashmiris, not Enemies,” “Protect Students, Protect the Nation,” and “Being Kashmiri is not a Crime,” the students called for safety, understanding, and national unity.
While unequivocally condemning the Pahalgam attack, the students expressed anguish over the backlash faced by innocent Kashmiris. “We condemn this act of violence, but our concern is—what is the fault of Kashmiri students? Why are they being harassed?” asked one of the protesting students.
The protesters appealed to both the Union and state governments to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students studying outside the Valley. “They are there for education, not conflict. Peace and harmony must not be disturbed,” they said.
Reiterating their commitment to non-violence and solidarity, another student added, “We are against any form of violence, but our brothers and sisters must not be harassed under any circumstances.”
It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, a terror attack struck the tourist destination of Pahalgam, leaving 26 people dead and several others injured.
