Weekly Closure Norms Violated in Kangan Market, Labour Department Yet to Act

Kangan, Jammu and Kashmir — Despite clear government directives, the Kangan market continues to violate weekly closure norms, with many shopkeepers choosing to keep their establishments open on Sundays.

According to official guidelines, Sunday has been designated as a mandatory off day for the majority of shops in the area. Additionally, salons are required to observe Tuesday as their weekly closure. However, on-ground checks reveal that most of these businesses are operating as usual, openly defying the Labour Department’s orders.

When approached for comment, a Labour Department official said, “We are currently engaged with duties in Baltal. However, we will try to initiate action against the violators in Kangan as soon as possible.”

Local residents have expressed frustration over the lack of enforcement, noting that without regular inspections, such directives lose their effectiveness. Some shopkeepers, meanwhile, claim they have not received any official notice regarding the closure rules.

As violations continue unchecked, all eyes are on the Labour Department to see when and how they will act to restore regulatory order in the market.

Locals have urged the authorities to impose heavy fines on the violators to ensure that such orders are taken seriously and not repeated in the future.
