Panchayat Elections in Jammu and Kashmir to be Held After November 2025

Srinagar: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has officially announced that Panchayat elections across the Union Territory will be conducted after November 2025. The decision has been taken under the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1939, and in consultation with the State Election Commission.

According to Order No. 45-RD&PR of 2025 issued by the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, a copy of which lies with  all necessary preparatory work for the conduct of free, fair, and transparent elections is set to begin immediately.

All concerned Deputy Commissioners, District Panchayat Officers, Block Development Officers, and Panchayat Secretaries have been directed to ensure the timely completion and revision of electoral rolls in accordance with guidelines issued by the State Election Commission.

Additionally, authorities are instructed to coordinate closely with law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order during the election process. Awareness programs and training sessions for election staff and Panchayat-level officials are to be facilitated, while all logistical and administrative arrangements must be put in place well before the commencement of elections.

The model code of conduct will come into effect from the date of announcement of the election schedule by the State Election Commission. Departments across the administration have been asked to extend full cooperation to election authorities to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming Panchayat elections.

This development reaffirms the government’s commitment to democratic processes and to empowering local governance structures across Jammu and Kashmir.
