Amid growing concerns over the sale of rotten meat in the district, the Food Safety Department of Ganderbal carried out a series of surprise raids on several restaurants in Ganderbal and Safapora, seizing and destroying large quantities of deteriorated chicken and mutton products.

The operation, led by Food Safety Officer Sheikh Abas, targeted multiple outlets following complaints of unhygienic practices. Speaking to Media Sheikh Abas confirmed that Aqsa Chiken Point Restaurant, in Safapora, and Sana Restaurant in Manasbal were inspected during the drive. “In these establishments, we found chicken-based food items in deteriorated condition. After proper sampling, all the unfit items were destroyed on the spot,” he said.

In another major seizure, the team raided Raj Palace Restaurant in Beehama, Ganderbal, where approximately 500 kababs and Rista were found to be in spoiled condition. Samples were collected for testing before the unsafe food was destroyed.

The officer further stated that legal action has been initiated against all the outlets found violating food safety norms. “Our priority is to ensure that no substandard or harmful food reaches the public’s plate,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, has issued strict directions to the concerned departments, making it clear that there will be no compromise on public health. The recent crackdown is part of the administration’s intensified campaign to safeguard consumers from foodborne hazards and ensure hygiene compliance in the district’s eateries.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of food adulteration or unhygienic practices to the Food Safety Department for immediate action.
