Awantipora: In a significant push to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in Jammu & Kashmir, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, inaugurated two state-of-the-art facilities at the Islamic University of Science and Technology’s (IUST) newly developed Innovation Campus in Awantipora on Monday.
The newly launched centres include the Innovation Technology Business Incubator (iTBI), backed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the iFactory under the Centre for Industry 4.0 (C4i4), sponsored by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. Both initiatives aim to nurture start-ups, promote advanced research, and strengthen the region’s innovation ecosystem.
Addressing faculty, students, and industry representatives, Dr. Singh lauded IUST’s efforts in establishing advanced laboratories and creating a platform for young innovators. “IUST is setting an example by positioning itself as a hub of innovation and start-up culture in the region,” he said.
The Minister announced a special grant of ₹5 crore to further strengthen the university’s innovation and entrepreneurship framework. He assured continuous support from the central government for initiatives that promote research-driven growth and skill development.
The event was attended by senior officials, faculty members, researchers, and budding entrepreneurs, marking a major milestone in the region’s journey towards becoming an innovation-driven economy.
