Twins Successfully Delivered Inside 108 Ambulance Enroute to SKIMS Soura from Kangan

Ganderbal: In a remarkable incident, a woman referred for complications due to breech presentation safely delivered of twins inside a 108 ambulance while being transferred from CHC Kangan to SKIMS Soura.
The 108 Emergency Response Centre received a call regarding 35-year-old Shameema Bano, a resident of Ganiwan village, Tehsil Gund, District Ganderbal, who was experiencing severe labour pain.CHC Kangan ambulance was immediately dispatched.
During transit, the patient’s condition worsened. Recognizing the urgency, on-duty Emergency Medical Technician Zahida Bano consulted ERCP Dr. Rajpal on 108 emergency helpline and successfully conducted the delivery inside the ambulance near Wayil at 12:45 pm.
The patient gave birth to twin male babies. Both newborns were immediately provided post-natal care; one required CPR, which was promptly administered. Following stabilization, the mother and both infants were shifted to District Hospital Ganderbal, where they were reported to be healthy and stable.
The attendants accompanying the patient expressed deep gratitude to the 108 ambulance team for their timely and professional service.
On the occasion, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Project Head 108 Emergency Services, appreciated the dedicated efforts of the EMT and ambulance pilot. He said Since the launch of 108 services, over 1345 successful deliveries have been conducted inside ambulances by our trained professionals. All 108 ambulances are equipped with skilled EMTs and essential pre-hospital care equipment, including delivery kits, to handle such critical emergencies.”
He further urged the public to dial 108 for any kind of medical emergency, assuring that the service remains committed to saving lives across Jammu & Kashmir.
