First Auto Rake Arrives in Kashmir, Paving Way for Trade Growth

Anantnag :In a landmark development, Kashmir on Friday received its first-ever automobile rake, a move set to revolutionise the region’s trade and logistics sector. The rake, carrying 116 vehicles, arrived at Anantnag railway station, marking a new phase of economic integration with the national supply chain.
Chief Area Manager, Northern Railway Budgam, Saqib Yousuf, described the development as a game-changer. “It will not only save money for companies, dealers and customers but also reduce the time taken to deliver vehicles. Today, 116 vehicles reached Anantnag by train, and in the coming days, other commodities like cement and apples will also be transported from Kashmir to different states. This is a good initiative by Indian Railways,” he said while speaking to reporters.
Automobile dealers expressed relief over the reduced waiting time. “Earlier, it took us nearly 15 days to receive our vehicle consignments. With the new auto rake service, it will take just 48 hours. This is excellent news for customers. With GST already reduced, they will now benefit from further discounts due to lower transportation costs,” a Kashmir -based dealer said.
Industry experts say the introduction of the auto rake will streamline logistics, minimize delays and strengthen business confidence in the valley. The move is also expected to encourage more industries to utilize the railway network for goods movement, making Kashmir a stronger hub for trade and commerce.
