Cannabis Cultivation Destroyed on 400 Kanal Land in Kulgam; Drives to Continue

Kulgam:Authorities destroyed nearly 350 to 400 kanal of wild cannabis in Kulgam during a joint operation carried out by the Excise Department Anantnag and Kulgam Police along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The drive was launched as part of a larger campaign to curb the spread of narcotic substances in South Kashmir. Officials said that such operations will continue in different areas to completely wipe out the illegal cultivation.
Excise Officer Mohd Amin, who supervised the drive, said that while cannabis is no longer intentionally cultivated by people, it often grows naturally along roadsides and fields. “This is harmful for society. Drugs can destroy the future of our children, and it is our responsibility to act wherever we find it,” he remarked.
Authorities stressed that the cooperation of locals is crucial to the success of these initiatives. They urged residents to report the presence of wild cannabis in their areas so that immediate action can be taken to safeguard communities from the threat of drug abuse.
