Verinag Witnesses Inauguration of Upgraded Sports Stadium: A Step Toward Empowering Youth

A new chapter in sports development unfolded in South Kashmir as Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, MLA Dooru G.A. Mir, and Secretary J&K Sports Council Nuzhat Gul jointly inaugurated the upgraded Sports Stadium at Verinag, Anantnag. The upgradation of the stadium marks a major milestone in boosting youth engagement, sporting infrastructure, and community development in the region.
During the event, MLA G.A. Mir highlighted several key demands and developmental requirements of his constituency, including improvements under the departments of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Training. He emphasized that these departments play a crucial role in the overall growth and welfare of the people of Dooru constituency.
Responding to the demands, Minister Satish Sharma assured full support and said that every possible effort will be made to fulfill the developmental needs. “Had statehood been restored, these demands would have been met within days. Nevertheless, I assure you that each point raised will be addressed with priority,” he stated. Sharma also underlined the importance of sports as a means to keep youth away from drugs and to channel their energy in positive directions.
Secretary Nuzhat Gul, while appreciating the progress of the stadium, said, “This is my third visit here, and I am pleased to see the steady transformation of the facility. Step by step, we are enhancing infrastructure to make sports more accessible and engaging for our youth. Our mission is to create a drug-free, active, and progressive Kashmir through sports.”
The upgraded Verinag Stadium is expected to serve as a vibrant hub for athletic and recreational activities, symbolizing the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and social transformation.
