Kulgam :A wave of profound grief swept through Kulgam on Friday as the mortal remains of Crime Branch cameraman Arshid Ahmad Shah reached his native village Chansar, a day after he tragically lost his life in the Nowgam Srinagar blast. The incident, termed accidental by officials, has shocked residents across South Kashmir.

Hundreds of locals gathered at Chansar to receive the body, with heart-wrenching scenes unfolding as family members, relatives and neighbours broke down while paying their last respects. The atmosphere remained sombre, with many recalling Arshid’s professionalism, dedication to his work and his contribution to crime and investigative reporting.

Senior officers from the civil and police administration visited the bereaved family to express solidarity. DIG South Kashmir Javed Iqbal Matto, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan, SSP Kulgam Anayat Chowdhary, and ASP Mumtaz Bhatti were among those who joined the funeral procession, offering condolences and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the grieving community.

Arshid Ahmad Shah was laid to rest with honour as thousands participated in the funeral prayers, reflecting the deep respect he commanded in his hometown. Emotional slogans and prayers marked the solemn farewell, turning Chansar into a sea of mourners.

Authorities said they have taken cognizance of the Nowgam blast, and a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the explosion. Meanwhile, the tragedy has sparked widespread sorrow across Kashmir, with many demanding enhanced safety protocols for personnel working in sensitive and high-risk environments.

The loss of the young cameraman has left an irreplaceable void in his family and community, marking yet another painful moment for the region.
