Land Allotted for Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities: Sakina Itoo

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has allotted land for the establishment of both the Cluster University of Srinagar and Cluster University of Jammu, Education Minister Sakeena Itoo informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Replying to a question raised by legislator Tanvir Sadiq, the Minister said the universities were established under the “Srinagar and Jammu Cluster Universities Act, 2016” as part of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan(RUSA) scheme. The initiative clusters human and infrastructural resources from five existing city colleges in each city to create the respective universities, in line with RUSA 1.0 guidelines.
Itoo highlighted that historic and high-performing institutions such as SP College, Women’s College MA Road, Amar Singh College, MAM College, GGM Science College, and SPMR College of Commerce are now part of the Cluster Universities.
The Minister added that both universities have developed independent postgraduate schools with their own faculty. She clarified that there is currently no proposal to affiliate, merge, or transfer administrative or asset control of the constituent colleges to the Cluster Universities. Administrative control of teaching and non-teaching staff of these colleges remains with the Higher Education Department.
Legislator Saif-ud-din Bhat raised supplementary questions during the session.
