Jammu: In a major enforcement drive, a joint team from the Legal Metrology Department and the Food Safety Department seized over 2,700 kg of expired frozen fish and chicken from multiple meat shops in Jammu.

Deputy Controller Manoj Prabhakar said the operation targeted violations of expiry-date compliance, storage protocols, and proper labelling requirements. Three shopkeepers have been booked for breaching packaging and storage regulations. The confiscated goods were safely disposed of at Kotbhalwal under the supervision of the Jammu Municipal Corporation.

The crackdown follows a similar operation in Kashmir, where officials recently destroyed more than 3,500 kg of rotten and adulterated meat recovered from various locations, sparking public alarm over food safety standards.
