Placed under house arrest ahead of Majlis at Jamia Masjid, says Mirwaiz Umar Farooq

Srinagar: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said he was once again put under house arrest by authorities ahead of the Majlis-e-Rahmat-ul-lil-Alameen ﷺ at Srinagar’s Jama Masjid, where ulema were scheduled to participate.
Mirwaiz alleged that Kashmiris’ political and human rights were already curtailed, and now there was persistent interference in religious affairs, from restrictions on gatherings at mosques to interventions over matters like the Ashoka plaque at Hazratbal and Muslim calendar holidays.
He said, despite these curbs, the pulpit of Jamia Masjid would continue to raise its voice “on issues of religious interference as well as blatant violation of people’s rights and their disempowerment.”
