CM Omar Abdullah Inaugurates Key Facilities at IUST on 20th Foundation Day

Awantipora:Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated several landmark facilities at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, as the institution celebrated its 20th Foundation Day with great enthusiasm.

Marking two decades of academic excellence, the Chief Minister dedicated the newly constructed Veshaw Girls’ Hostel to students. The hostel, equipped with modern amenities, provides safe and comfortable accommodation for over 300 female students, reflecting the government’s focus on promoting women’s education and welfare.

Omar Abdullah also launched the IUST Community Radio 91.2 FM, aimed at strengthening the university’s academic outreach and fostering closer ties with surrounding communities. The community radio will serve as a bridge between the campus and local population, promoting education, awareness, and cultural exchange.

Adding to the celebrations, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Tech Expo, showcasing innovative projects, research, and start-ups developed by IUST’s young entrepreneurs and researchers. The exhibition highlighted the university’s growing emphasis on innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the event, Omar Abdullah lauded IUST’s progress over the years, noting its contributions to higher education and research in the region. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure, skill development, and research linkages in Jammu and Kashmir.

The week-long Foundation Day celebrations feature a range of activities including the Academia–Industry Conclave 5.0, Hackathon, Business and Literary Festivals, and cultural events. These initiatives underscore IUST’s vision to emerge as a center of academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement in the Union Territory.
