Kulgam:Nearly 70 percent of roads across Kulgam district have been cleared of snow as the Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) intensified snow clearance operations following heavy snowfall, officials said on Thursday.

Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) MED Kulgam, Khurshid Abdullah, informed that 25 snow clearance machines have been pressed into service and men and machinery are working on a war footing to restore road connectivity across the district.

He said priority is being given to major arterial roads connecting Kulgam with neighbouring districts, besides link roads and inner village routes to ensure smooth movement of traffic and essential services.

However, continuous snowfall is posing challenges to the operations, slowing down the clearance process in some areas.

“Complete snow clearance is expected by evening if weather conditions remain favourable. I am personally monitoring the situation on the ground to ensure all roads are cleared at the earliest,” Abdullah added.
